Footy Show great Sam Newman is selling a rare and highly collectable Ford Mustang from his private collection.

Newman has curated a boutique collection of stunning vintage cars over his TV career, including the 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 which was listed for sale with Lloyd’s Auctions in Melbourne on Saturday. It passed in at $330,000.

The left hand drive, maroon, two-door, V8 coupe has just 33,039 miles (53,171 kilometres) on the clock.

“Lloyds are proud to present one of the most desirable classic cars to come out of the USA – the Mustang Boss 429. The Ford Mustang Boss 429 is one of the most sought-after classic cars on the planet with just 1359 units built during its two-year run between 1969 and 1970,” the car’s listing read.

Newman said the car had brought him great joy.

“There has been interest from overseas on it because it is a 100-point car which means that it ticks every box for its authenticity, so it is quite rare,” he said.

“I have a reserve on it so if it gets to the reserve I will sell it and if it doesn’t I won’t.”

He said he was selling the vehicle as he did not have the chance to drive it as often as he would like.

“I have some vintage, older cars and I like to drive them all,” he said.

“I don’t have them sitting there and it is now just physically impossible to drive them all, so they just sit there and if you don’t use them it defeats the purpose of a) having them, because they need to keep running, and b) I don’t enjoy them if I don’t drive them.

“I don’t need to sell it but if I get the reserve I will sell it.”
