Former Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has hinted the relationship between Miss Universe Australia Maria Thattil and British reality star Joey Essex on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here may have been more ‘showmance’ than romance.

Buckley dropped the IAC bombshell during an interview on Nova breakfast, where Chrissie Swan told how she and English cricketer Freddie Flintoff were great mates during the filming of their season of Celebrity only for Flintoff to ignore her texts and have nothing to do with her as soon as the show ended.

“I don’t want to tell tales out of school but I think that is how Joey and Maria have gone, I think,” Buckley mused.

“I can’t confirm or deny.”

Essex was not Buckley’s favourite camp mate.

He told the reality import he was a “rude pr*ck” for his unhygienic cooking habits - specifically eating off the spoon he was using to cook the camp mate’s evening meal with.

“Joey was a lot for Joey and I think I had sort of reached the end of my tether,” he said of the cooking pot confrontation.

“I think I was pretty much the last camp mate to reach that tether, by the way, but he was great value, a great performer, just no good on the cooking preparation.”

Buckley joked Celebrity had shown viewers “the fact I am only an a***hole 90 per cent of the time not 95 per cent as everyone thought.”

Buckley, an unlikely but fascinating reality star, is one of six contestants vying for the I’m A Celebrity crown on the live grand finale of the show on Channel 10 on Sunday. The cast is gathering in Sydney for the TV event

“I am really looking forward to seeing some people who I was surprised to get so connected with in such a short space of time,” he said.
