Princess Mary’s pal cries foul on ‘fairytale’ meeting with Prince
A bridesmaid and close pal of Princess Mary says her friend’s “fairytale” meeting with her future husband, Prince Frederik of Denmark, at a pub in Sydney isn't quite the Cinderella story people believe.

Podcaster and writer Amber Petty has revealed the truth behind her best friend, Mary Donaldson, ‘fairytale’ meeting with ravishing royal, Prince Frederik of Denmark, at a Sydney bar 20 years ago.
Legend has it Donaldson, now the Crown Princess of Denmark, randomly met Frederik at a pub during the Sydney Olympics, with no idea who he was.
Now Petty has revealed it was far from a ‘boy bumps into girl at a bar’ scenario but rather an exclusive private dinner with a pack of princes who were in Australia for the Olympics.
“A lot of people say she just randomly met him at The Slip Inn, but all of that is bulls---,” Petty told the Pure Grit podcast.
“The truth was that she happened to know someone who knew the two cousins to the King of Spain, they were Spanish royalty.
“European royals know each other, they are related. There were about half a dozen of these very senior royals, Crown Prince kind of range - Norway, Spain, Denmark and maybe Greece, even though they are not official royals anymore.
“This girl Mary was friends with said, ‘I am going to put together this group’ and invite a couple of extras and Mary was one of the extras.
“So it was an organised dinner, but it was at The Slip Inn because they wanted something casual.
“It was a chance for them (the princes) all to catch up … and really Mary was the only one who did not know them all at that dinner.”
Petty, who was a bridesmaid at Mary and Frederik’s wedding, is still close to the Princess.
