Crown Princess Mary’s surprise move from Denmark with kids

Crown Princess Mary and her four children are set for a huge lifestyle change, as the royals leave their palace in Copenhagen for the slopes of Switzerland.

Princess Mary’s family is set for a huge lifestyle change, as the royals swap Denmark for the slopes of Switzerland.

The Australian-born Crown Princess has relocated herself and her four children to a Swiss boarding school for a term — spanning three months — where they will be educated at Lemania-Verbier International School.

Mary is reportedly living in Switzerland during this time, while her husband Prince Frederik will remain in Denmark on official royal duties and is planning regular visits to the family’s temporary new base.

The couple share four children - Prince Christian, 14, Princess Isabella, 12, and eight-year-old twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.

New photos show the family settling into their snowy new home, rugging up in winter boots, beanies and ski puffer jackets.

It came as Tasmanian-raised Mary - born Mary Donaldson - sent her “heartfelt condolences” to Australians in the midst of the bushfire crisis.

In a letter to Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Princess Mary said she had the “deepest respect” for those on the frontline.

“When the immediate crisis subsides and people can begin to return from where they have fled, our thoughts and concerns will remain with the affected local communities, as it will undoubtedly take great efforts and time for them to rebuild what has been lost,” Princess Mary wrote.

“The courage and unyielding efforts of the volunteer firefighters have our deepest respect and admiration.

“Following from afar, it makes me proud of my Australian heritage to witness the strong sense of community and the Australian spirit of ’never giving up’ in the face of such devastation and adversity. “

In October, Princess Mary of Denmark was given the right to fill in for Queen Margrethe when she is abroad on engagements, or when the Queen is unavailable.

In a significant move, the Crown Princess, who was born in Tasmania, has been given the nod to back up the Danish Queen.

An official statement, released on Thursday morning (local time), confirms Mary will be given the right to act as regent.

Queen Margrethe signed a declaration to make it official, with a picture posted to the Danish royal’s Instagram page.

“As regent, The Crown Princess will, from now on, be able to attend to The Queen’s duties as head of state when The Queen is prevented from doing so, for example during a stay abroad,” the Danish Royal House said in a statement.

Mary joins her husband Prince Frederik and her relatives Prince Joachim and Princess Benedikte as official back ups.

“Today, The Queen’s duties can be handled by The Crown Prince as regent or by Their Royal Highnesses Prince Joachim and Princess Benedikte as regents,” the Danish Royal House added.
