These are the reality renovators who are tasked with transforming the rundown Oslo Backpacker Hotel in St Kilda into luxury accommodation for the new season of The Block.

The identities of the new Blockheads — seen in these photos arriving as filming of the hit Channel 9 show got under way on Friday — are as yet unknown.

However, one contestant is understood to be popular comedian Andy Saunders.

The new cast looked suitably overwhelmed as they arrived at the leviathan project in Grey St.

The renovation project is by far the biggest attempted for The Block.

The contestants must transform the enormous three-storey dilapidated property into five state-of-the-art homes.

Playing on the backpacker theme, one couple arrived at the property carrying backpacks, while the others rolled up in their branded Block vehicles.

Among the contestants is a gay couple who, thanks to their red velvet jacket, floral suit and white Gucci loafers, lifted the dress code way above the fluoro green and orange safety vests that dominate The Block site.

Channel 9 paid $10.8 million for The Oslo.

The project is reportedly double the size of last year’s renovation at The Gatwick.
