MKR contestant’s bizarre patriotic bum tattoo

Self-styled budget gourmand and upcoming MKR contestant, Jodie-Anne Barlow, might just be Victoria’s most patriotic amateur chef, wearing her Aussie pride on her sleeve, or rather, across the top of her buttocks.

Self-styled budget gourmand, Jodie-Anne Barlow, might just be Victoria’s most patriotic amateur chef.

Barlow does more than wear her Aussie pride on her sleeve. She has it tattooed across the top of her buttocks.

The Torrumbarry-based foodie has a large panoramic ANZAC tribute inked cross her lower back and the top of her bum, complete with a memorial stone rising from her coccyx.

Poppies, soldiers, a Lancaster plane and the Australian flag feature in the elaborate and undeniably eye-catching tattoo.

“My grandfather was in WWII and captained a Lancaster (plane),” Barlow said.

“Australia Day and ANZAC Day are super important to me.

“When I was in my late 20s I got a leopard print G-string tattooed (on me). When I was turning 40 I did not want to be explaining that, so I decided to get a cover job.

“I thought, ‘what is one of the most important things to me?’, and it was my grandfather and what the soldiers did for us.

“So I got it done. It was 14 hours of work for my 40th birthday.”

Barlow, 49, is competing on the new series of Channel 7’s My Kitchen Rules with her husband, Mick, 47.

The couple, who fired up a BBQ for an Australia Day feast, are set to bring their “champagne food on a beer budget” philosophy to the MKR table.

That is also the name of the TV show they hope to launch off the back of their reality TV experience.

“We like a lot of different cuisines but we always put a bit of Mick and Jodie-Anne in it,” Barlow said.

“We live, excluding beer, on about $70 a week at the grocery store.

“We get a fair ribbing from the judges about some of our recipe decisions. Most of the things we cook is stuff I have made up or things we have created together.

“We got a few bad reviews (from the judges) and really started thinking do we need to change our style and we decided, ‘no’.

“If you change your style you are not being true to yourself.”

MKR launches on Channel 7 at 7pm Monday, January 28, 2019.
