Geoffrey Edelsten’s only child Matthew Beard has revealed an extraordinary permanent and personal tribute to his late father.

Beard, who is based in Sydney, has had his father’s surname inked onto his torso above a fierce tattoo of a tiger’s head.

“In memory of not only one of the best doctors Australia has ever seen, a very successful businessman, and more importantly my father,” he posted on social media above a photo of his body artwork.

The tattoo represents the bond between father and son and how, despite Edelsten having passed away, he is still very much present and part of Beard’s life.

While few in the general public knew that Edelsten had a son, Beard was part of his father’s life with the pair keeping in contact over the years and it was no secret in family and wider friend’s circles who his dad was.

He was the only family member to attend Edelsten’s funeral in Melbourne in June last year.

The tattoo tribute took three hours to complete and was a spur of the moment decision.

Edelsten, who provided for his son throughout his life, left $50,000 to Beard in his will.

Beard has yet to comment on his father’s estate.

Beard, 33, is a buff, artistically tattooed, fitness enthusiast from Sydney who works in the recycling industry.

At 185cm in height and weighing in at a muscled 100kg, Beard cuts quite a different figure to his diminutive father.

They do however share a flare for luxury fashion and expensive jewelled accessories as evidenced by Beard’s glitzy grill and wardrobe of luxe label outfits.

Beard’s mother, Isabel Beard, had a relationship with Edelsten after they met when she was a patient of his in Sydney in the late 1980s.

Edelsten died aged 78 on June 11, 2021 after several years of ill health.
