Jimmy Bartel has revealed his true feelings about the birth of his first daughter

The former Cats star has revealed his fears about having a baby girl as he prepares to welcome his first daughter with partner Amelia Shepperd.

Jimmy Bartel has admitted he is “petrified” about becoming a girl dad.

Bartel is expecting his first child with his partner Amelia Shepperd in early April.

The former Geelong star has two sons, Aston and Henley, from his marriage to influencer Nadia Bartel.

“(It is) five weeks away now, so I’m getting really excited for that,” Bartel said at the launch of 3AW’s footy commentary team.

“I am petrified at the moment. (We are) having a little girl.

“My two older sisters, they only have boys. This is my mum’s 11th grandchild and this is the first girl.

“A few things are going through my head, well how do I do their hair.

“So, I am a bit scared to be honest.”

One of Melbourne’s lowest key couples, Bartel and Shepperd celebrated their one-year anniversary together in August.

To mark the milestone Bartel wrote on Instagram: “It’s been a blur, but what a year with you. Love you.”

The Brownlow Medal winner and Shepperd announced in early October they were expecting a daughter.

“Baby Bartel, you’re already so incredibly loved,” he commented on a video of the couple’s baby gender reveal party.

Bartel split from ex-wife Nadia in 2019 but they co-parent their children together. Nadia is currently dating Melbourne personal trainer and model Peter Dugmore.
