Human headline Derryn Hinch has revealed he is facing a “pretty serious” battle with skin cancer.
Hinch is deep into a five week program of daily radiation treatment to rid him of a melanoma on his forehead.
Hinch’s skin cancer ordeal started in February after a cancerous spot was discovered just below his hairline.
“I had it removed by a doctor,” Hinch said.
“They said they did not get it all off my forehead, so it was off to Peter Mac (Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre) where they operated on my face and dug even deeper and they got what they thought was everything.
“Then, they call it insurance, I have to have these five weeks of radiation treatment.”
Hinch said he was taking his medical issue seriously and was fully committed to the treatment schedule.
“I am just taking it day by day,” he said.
“It is not good. I have had two operations on my face and they still have to do radiation. The only good news is they looked at a spot that I was operated on about eight years ago on the other side (of his forehead) and that is clear.
“I am doing what I did when I was under house arrest. I tick off each day and once that day is gone, it is gone.
“It is pretty serious but as someone once said, that’s life.”
Hinch, 80, has three weeks of his treatment at the Alfred Hospital to go and is remaining upbeat.
“I am warned that you can feel very tired from radiation, I have not found that at all,” he said.
“I am feeling good.”
