Media legend Derryn Hinch will undergo radiation therapy after finding a potentially deadly melanoma on his face.
The cancer was discovered on the right-hand side of his forehead during a routine skin check this month.
He says doctors had to carry out surgery urgently to remove the thumbnail sized growth.
“They cut pretty wide,” he told 7 News.
“They dug as deep as they could but then said they couldn't get it all.”
He will now go the start cancer treatment next month.
It’s not the first time Hinch, who just celebrated his 80th birthday on February 9, has been on the operating table.
In July 2011 he underwent a liver transplant, and revealed that he had died on the table.
but he recovered and went on to have a long successful political career.
Hinch is one of 10,000 Australian who get diagnosed with a melanoma every year, and he is using the opportunity to tell others to get checked regularly.
Despite his latest health scare, Hinch is confident he will recover.
But for now he is sporting two large rows of stitches on his forehead.
