HE has DJ-ed for the likes of Justin Bieber, Ashanti, Paris Hilton and Jason DeRulo, but MasterChef’s Khanh Ong is cooking up a career move and is ready to put music on the backburner.
The Melbourne-based DJ has made it into the MasterChef Top 10, emerging as one of the real contenders for this year’s cooking crown.
“DJ-ing, I sort of fell into,” Ong said.

“I liked it, I kept doing it and I got good at it. Food has always been my escape. I am now trying to transition out of the DJ-ing slowly.”
Ong DJ-ed at pop superstar Bieber’s private post-show party at Mon Bijou in Melbourne last year.
“There were only about 40 people there, mainly girls, and it was more like a listening party,” he said.
“He was lovely. It was a nice atmosphere. He wanted R&B new school as opposed to old stuff. He had his own mix tapes that he wanted played as well.”
Ong said he was motivated by the challenge of establishing himself in a new field. “I don’t like being comfortable, I like to challenge myself,” he said.
“I am scared of heights so
I bungy jump, I am scared of deep water so I will go diving.
“If you are able to overcome it, it is no longer a fear.”
