Model Lucy Brownless has told how facing the serious health challenges of her partner, AFL player Paddy McCartin, has made their relationship stronger.
“If we can get through this we can get through anything,” Brownless said. “We are absolutely the strongest we have ever been. There were definitely times during this year where it was really hard, but I am so happy that the worst is absolutely behind us now and we can start moving forward.
“This year has put a lot of things into perspective for him and for me and for us together and health really is the most important thing.
“The pressure is now off. He has time to get himself right. If in a year he has the all-clear from everyone, he is very keen to get back into footy, but footy will be a bonus.”
McCartin was delisted by St Kilda last week after battling serious concussion-related health issues this year. While challenging, the events of the past year have also helped Brownless, 24, find her career path.
Having studied nutrition and recently qualified as a yoga teacher, she is focused on the health and wellness space.
“I don’t think I would have been pushed down this path if these things had not have happened,” Brownless said. I had to stop and look at my life and think ‘what is important?’,” she said. “My goal is to have retreats and a yoga studio and ideally I would love to teach yoga classes at schools.”
TV presenting in the health and wellness space is also a goal for Brownless, who is managed by LBM Management.
Brownless was at the Flemington Birdcage on Saturday.
