THE ex-wife of former Melbourne nightclub king Darren Thornburgh has given her blessing to the reopening of his famed afterdark hotspot, Boutique.
Denise Foster was among the guests at the relaunch of the legendary club in Prahran on Friday night and thanked the new owners and promoters for honouring Thornburgh’s legacy.
THE LAST DAYS OF DARREN THORNBURGH
“I was not sure what to expect and how I would feel about the relaunch of the club,” she wrote on Facebook on Saturday.
“I had my own personal reasons for wanting to attend last night’s opening (after all, I did own 25 per cent of the business and put a lot of my own thoughts and creativity into building Boutique with my ex-husband back in 2001).
“I wish you all good luck in this fickle and difficult industry but Boutique was certainly one of The Best due to Darren’s talents and his innovative and creative mindset.”
“And I believe you all are showing respect and allowing his legacy to live on!”
Thornburgh was found dead on the front porch of his holiday home in Barmah, 250km from Melbourne, in November.
The relaunch of Boutique, which was such a key part of Thornburgh’s life, has clearly been emotional and challenging for his family.
However, Foster’s eldest daughter, Zoe, last week expressed anger in a Facebook post at the use of the name.
“Absolutely pathetic what the nightclub industry has become when promoters
think it’s acceptable to reuse the same club name and night name of someone who died
less than six f---ing months ago,” Zoe wrote on Facebook, before later deleting it.
