Gossip Queen: Brenton Ragless flagged as possible replacement for Karl Stefanovic on Today

He might only be warming the Today host’s chair but this stand-in is winning over viewers, with his name quietly mentioned as a possible replacement for Stefanovic, whose marriage circus continues to spiral out of control.

He might only be warming the Today host’s chair while Karl Stefanovic is partying in Mexico, but Brenton Ragless is looking increasingly comfortable on Channel 9’s flagship breakfast show.

Ragless, 43, is Nine’s newsreader in South Australia and was the summer replacement for Stefanovic last year.

He obviously impressed the powers that be as he is back again this year and continues to win over viewers with his easy manner.

He and Deborah Knight were a very watchable pair last week and that bodes well for the show which has endured yet another year of distractions thanks to Stefanovic’s personal life and dropping viewer numbers.

Ragless’s name has been quietly mentioned as a possible replacement for Stefanovic in the past 12 months.

Seeing him well settled in the hosting hot seat during the off-ratings period won’t do anything to quell those rumours.

He might not have the profile of others linked to the Today role, but he is certainly one to watch.

A former radio presenter, Ragless, who is married with two young children, joined Nine in Adelaide in 2008 as a weather presenter. He graduated to Nine’s nightly news presenter in Adelaide in 2014.

Now a national role might be in the offering as the Stefanovic marriage circus continues to spiral out of control.
