SHE may be one of Australia’s greatest exports, but Elle Macpherson could have a hard time convincing authorities to allow her new man into her homeland.

The Body’s new squeeze, anti-vax campaigner and disgraced former doctor Andrew Wakefield, would be a long shot to qualify for a visa due to his stance on immunisation.

Several leading anti-vaxxers have been denied Australian visas on the grounds they pose a risk to public safety and would undermine public health messages.

Prominent British anti-vaccination campaigner Polly Tommey was slapped with a three-year ban from entering Australia after fronting a tour of the controversial anti-vaxxer
film Vaxxed last year.

Wakefield — who directed the film — appeared via Skype during the same tour to espouse his strong claims against vaccinations.

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton’s office refused to speculate on whether Wakefield would be allowed to enter the country, but Australia’s Immigration Act provides authority to cancel a visa if the Minister believes a person could be a risk to the health or safety of the Australian community.

“All visa applications are examined on case-by-case grounds and assessed on their merits,” Mr Dutton’s spokeswoman said.

Wakefield is credited with starting the global anti-vaxxer movement with now discredited 1998 research claiming a link between what was then the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine and autism. However, the gastroenterologist’s research was ruled to have been falsified and he was not only struck off the medical register for unethical behaviour, but his work was wiped from the official pages of medical history.
