VIBRANT British homestyle consultant Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen says Australia is in danger of falling into an interior style vacuum thanks to overbearing “design-osaurs”.

Llewelyn-Bowen, who returns for the new series of Channel 7’s House Rules, has vowed to save the country from homestyle bland-out.

“The majority of Australian homes are in danger of delusions of ‘bland-eur’ at the moment,” he said.

“They have this idea that neutral, natural decorating will get them out of a crisis.

“Don’t do that. Back in snobbish Old Blighty, people have got this idea that good taste is so elevated, bad taste is so scary, that they will go for no taste whatsoever, which means they will go all neutral.

“Nature here in Australia has been coloured in by Walt Disney.

“It is made up of so many shades of lush and lovely.

“When you have natural decorating that is based on beiges, you are effectively dealing with dead nature. You are dealing with natural things that have ceased to exist.

“I am here as a goodwill ambassador from Planet Sparkly to try and hold back the tide of blah.”

Llewelyn-Bowen trumpeted House Rules as leading a return to “real reality”.

“There is a lot of staged reality on television at the moment. You sit down and you know they are the villains, they are the bogans, they are the cheaters, they are the goody-goodies,” he said.

“House Rules is about real reality.

“The producers have found amazing people at the outset, rather than trying to manipulate the contestants into who they hoped they would be.”
