Eddie McGuire to start in plum radio role with Neil Mitchell on the ‘Ideas Factory’ segment

3AW host Neil Mitchell says he is looking forward to having “loose cannon” Eddie McGuire join him in a regular on-air segment.

Eddie McGuire will be a regular guest on Neil Mitchell’s top rating 3AW show.

Eddie McGuire is returning to radio having nabbed a plum role with his one-time airwaves foe.

McGuire will be a regular guest on Neil Mitchell’s top rating Mornings show on 3AW, doing a fortnightly “idea factory” segment.

“He is a free agent and a loose cannon, what else could you ask for,” Mitchell said of McGuire.

The pairing of the opinionated, connected and outspoken pair is interesting, even more so considering for the last few years of McGuire’s Hot Breakfast show on Triple M, the team delighted in taking pot shots at Mitchell calling him a shock jock and labelling him “grumpy Neil”.

Neil Mitchell and Eddie McGuire are former airwaves foes.

“Eddie and I have been discussing, arguing, laughing together for probably 30 years, so why don’t we put it on air,” Mitchell said.

“He has been sitting over at Triple M sniping for all that time, now he can snipe at me face-to-face.

“It is about ideas, we are going to call it the ‘Ideas Factory’. Eddie is always good for an idea, I usually have a few, we can throw them around and agree or disagree or whatever.”

Mitchell is also adding a fortnightly debate between Fiona Patten and Bernie Finn to his show.

The political pair make their showdown debut with Mitchell this week.

“Can you think of two people less likely to get along than Fiona Patten and Bernie Finn,” he said.

“I have told them I don’t want a shout-fest. I want it to be an entertaining, different take on what is going on.”
