Eddie McGuire has secretly returned to TV after stepping back from his media commitments following his resignation as president of the Collingwood Football Club.

McGuire stepped down as Magpie president after 23 years in the job following sustained backlash to his comments about the club’s Do Better report.

He described it as a “proud” and “historic” day when he released the report last month. The report found systemic racism was endemic at the club.

When he announced his resignation as president days later McGuire emphasised Collingwood was not a racist club and said that that he would take a short break from his media commitments.

While he has yet to confirm when he will return to his footy media roles, McGuire has quietly returned to one of his familiar and favourite roles in front of the cameras.

The media heavyweight was back playing quizmaster last week at the Dockland studios in Melbourne where it is understood he filmed a block of episodes for Millionaire Hot Seat. The episodes will air after Easter.

McGuire’s JAM TV produce the show and filming went ahead in its usual efficient and low key fashion.

The show films at regular intervals during the year and is one of just a handful of TV shows still based in Melbourne.

Last year’s COVID-19 lockdown saw productions such as The Masked Singer and Ninja Warrior Australia move to Sydney. McGuire has been determined to keep Melbourne as the show’s home. Meanwhile it is still unknown if McGuire will front the Wednesday night edition of Footy Classified when it returns this week.

Matthew Lloyd, Ross Lyon and Caroline Wilson are locked in as the show’s regular panellists but the station could not confirm on Friday if McGuire would be returning to the footy fray as host for the first Wednesday edition of the year.

McGuire was among the mourners at Michael Gudinski’s funeral last Wednesday.
