Legendary TV funnyman John Blackman was farewelled by family and friends at a beautiful, emotional and moving service in Malvern last Sunday.
The 120 guests, including Daryl Somers and his wife Julie, Pete and Jackie Smith, Wilbur Wilde, Red Symons, Eddie McGuire, Rhonda Burchmore, Phil Brady, Heidi Victoria, Marty Fields, Glenn Robbins, Mike Brady, Gavin Wood, Ray Punjer, Simon Owens, Annette Allison, Tony McManus, Jill Mansfield, Rowina Thomas, Bob Phillips, Gerald Quigley, Frankie J Holden, Craig Willis and Pam Barnes gathered after the service at the Malvern Hotel for a private “Farewell To Blackers”.
An emotional Somers remarked while honouring Blackman at the funeral service that the Hey Hey It’s Saturday voiceover man was now upstairs with the show’s co-creator, Ernie Carroll, possibly preparing for “Hey Hey It’s Heaven.”
While it was an off the cuff comment, Somers obviously liked the sound of it.
A trademark application for Hey Hey It’s Heaven was filed by Somers Enterprises Australia Pty Ltd on June 26, three days after his heartfelt observation.
