Carlton great Brendan Fevola says ‘sh*t bag’ footy antics reason for radio stardom

Unlike most celebs, former Carlton superstar Brendan Fevola gets a kick out of owning his stuff ups, with the FM host thanking his ‘naughty’ side for his radio success.

Former Carlton great Brendan Fevola says his “sh*t bag” antics during his football career is what has made him a radio star.

Fevola has spoken about how finding trouble and ultimately being dumped from his AFL gig has unintentionally been his secret weapon in building his radio career.

“I think the beauty of what I have done in the past has really helped me in radio,” he told the Along For The Ride podcast.

“A lot of media personalities are clean skin and have lived a good life, where I have been a sh*t bag and lost a job, lost footy and done certain things I shouldn’t have done, and people can relate to that.

“They know that I am real.

“Had I gone through footy and played like 300 or 400 games and kicked 1000 goals I probably would not be able to have the job I (have), I suppose.

“People look at me as the larrikin, the idiot and naughty, and I play that up,” the 41-year-old said.

Fevola said his eventful life gave him talkable content.

“All the times I stuffed up or done bad things in my past, geez, it is great for radio,” he said.

“It makes good topics for phoners and I can relate to so many things.

“Having four daughters ... they are great content, which is good.

“I did say to Alex (his fiance) a couple of weeks ago ‘we need to have another baby (to) get some more content’.”
