Normally a Derby Day fixture at Flemington, shamed former WAG Nadia Bartel is back to business as usual on social media with plates surprisingly featuring in her latest celebration of self.
Bartel has been pumping up her clothing brand Henne on her Instagram and posted footage of the label’s team picnicking in a backyard on Friday with nibbles, cupcakes and pretty plates.
No cheap plates at that gathering.
The mum of two has found herself associated with budget crockery since a video of her snorting a white power off what appeared to be a very affordable plate went viral in September.
The blue plate at the centre of the drama became a meme.
An embarrassed Bartel promised her fans she would make “better choices” going forward after she became a social media punchline, was shaded by the Premier, and fined for attending an illegal lockdown party where the video was taken.
Until another celebrity gets busted making a poor choice, Bartel is going to be the default example of star stuff-ups.
So, she may as well plough on and ignore the comments about power, the colour white and lines that inevitably pop-up on her posts.
And while some commentators squawk that she must name the powder that was on the plate in order to redeem herself, she doesn’t. In terms of risk versus reward, why would you?
She just needs to have a rehearsed answer to that inevitable question and stick to it no matter how many ways and times she is asked.
Sorry haters, but the Bartel bandwagon of selfies and selling will roll on, that much is clear, as her tentative return steps into social media with her clothing label shows.
Whether major brands — those with the deepest pockets — are ready to risk the association with the star of the notorious video is a question yet to be answered.
But eventually they will and we will no doubt see the fashion plate back at Flemington in her finery next year.
