Acclaimed actor Guy Pearce puts trove of rare guitars on the auction block

The acclaimed actor’s legendary personal collection of Rickenbackers, Gibsons and Fenders are up for sale in Melbourne’s inner-city south.

Acclaimed actor Guy Pearce is divesting himself of a trove of rare and highly desirable guitars from legendary personal collection, including a Rickenbacker 625/12 Prototype sporting a price tag of $99,999.

A 1964 ‘Ember Red’ Gibson Firebird V is also available for $74,999.

The former Neighbours star has long been candid about his passion for music and his vast collection of guitars which started in 1998 when he was working on the film A Slipping Down Life. He has a serious eye for quality and heritage.

Not convinced about the new guitars the production team provided him, he headed off to the Texas Guitar Show and ended up buying two vintage instruments which became the basis of his trove.

He told the New York Times in 2018 he had about 85 guitars and in a 2017 Yahoo interview he said he had become “pretty nerdy for a while” as he researched and added to his collection.

Now six guitars and an amp from Pearce’s collection are on the market through the Acoustic Centre in South Melbourne.

The guitars, which are not stored at the South Melbourne premises, are true collectors items.

The is a 1966 ‘Lake Placid Blue’ Fender Telecaster valued at $39,999, a 1966 ‘Candy Apple Red’ Fender Electric XII listed for $12,999, a 1969 ‘Candy Apple Red’ Fender Telecaster Bass priced at $18,999 and a 1963 ‘Custom Colour Ebony’ Gibson Firebird I listed for $21,999.

A 1964 ‘Ember Red’ Gibson Firebird V will set you back $74,999 while the 1964 ‘Fireglo’ Rickenbacker 625/12 Prototype has a price of $99,999 attached.

The provenance of each guitar is detailed within each listing on Centre’s website and it is noted that the guitars come “to us as part of the collection of Australian actor Guy Pearce for sale exclusively through Acoustic Centre.”

The store declined to comment when contacted.
