What next for Carrie Bickmore and The Project after they part ways

As names are thrown around to replace Carrie Bickmore as host on The Project, could there be a network switch in her future?

Carrie Bickmore is in The Project chair until November 30 but who takes her role after that is very much up in the air.

When Bickmore took three months off to spend time in Europe the likes of Chrissie Swan and Georgie Tunny filled in and were well received.

Kate Langbroek is due to work on Channel 9’s new modern dating show soon, but could also be in the mix along with Studio 10 host Sarah Harris and of course Lisa Wilkinson who is already part of the show. Ten may also look outside the network.

Chrissie Swan and Georgie Tunny replaced Bickmore on her extended break to the UK.

The twist for Bickmore’s future could be that A Current Affair are looking for a new host, as Tracy Grimshaw steps down, but insiders say it’s very unlikely we’d see the Gold Logie winner make the switch to Nine.

It’s believed Bickmore will take time off over Summer.

Bickmore’s partner, Chris Walker, paid tribute to the mum of three after she made her tearful announcement on Tuesday night.

“So this lady did something super brave tonight. Witnessing the work ethic of @bickmorecarrie from our family’s vantage has been mesmerising. She was no doubt, and always will be, the captain of that show.

“But, she is also the captain of our little family and she lights up our lives even more than she lights up a studio. What an unbelievable ride it’s been for you babe. We all love you and can’t wait for what’s next.”

Tommy Little, her radio co-host on FOX FM, also paid tribute.

“The best in the business. The halo effect around @bickmorecarrie is unparalleled,” Little wrote. “She lifts up everyone around her and makes them all look good, something which has served me well for years.

“She’s the heart and soul of this show and unless there’s anymore surprise announcements this week I’m stoked to be able to ride these coat tails a little longer with our radio show.”
