Magpies star Mason Cox is set to tell Americans that Australian rules football is the “most unique, confusing, beautiful game in the world” in a 60 Minutes interview airing in the US this weekend.

The US current affairs giant travelled to Melbourne to do a story on Texas-born Cox, and his journey to the heights of AFL as a Collingwood player.

“It will be the biggest international exposure for AFL. For myself, the club and the league, it’s a massive opportunity for the game,” Cox told the Sunday Herald Sun.

“60 Minutes has 13 million viewers every week; half the population of Australia watches 60 Minutes every Sunday.”

He said the profile tracks his “journey over to AFL and an explanation of what AFL is.”

He added: “It’s a short deep dive on my life and career, how I came to play a foreign sport, and moving to Australia.”

How did Cox explain Aussie rules to 60 Minutes?

“It’s essentially every single sport you could think of, thrown into one with zero rules,” he said, laughing. “It’s gridiron, basketball, soccer, everything, mixed. It’s the most unique confusing beautiful game in the world.”

He said the 60 Minutes team loved the game. They were like, “This is insane, How do people not know about this?”

Meanwhile, Cox, played celebrity bartender at Australia’s smallest cocktail bar, Tiny Tails, a Tails Cocktails pop up venue at Federation Square at the weekend.

He is recovering from a haematoma after suffering a rib injury.

“I had an operation, everything is all good, but the body has to heal itself. It’s part of the journey. You keep rolling with the punches.”
