Rockstar Brian Mannix is nursing a bruised and battered face after a day out on Sam Newman’s yacht was rocked by wild weather.
Mannix said he went nose first into the step on Newman’s 66-foot yacht named Angst in the waters near Beaumaris in Melbourne’s south on Saturday afternoon.
“It got really rocky but I wasn’t drunk, I just want to clear that up,’’ Mannix said.
“The doctors say it’s not broken, just an impact injury. It was a great day and I just came away a bit banged up.”
Newman hosted friends including Mannix, lead singer of 1980s band Uncanny X-Men, former manager Ricky Nixon and his partner Melissa Huynh, footy high flyer Warwick Capper and aerobics champion Sue Stanley.
Newman said it was one of the roughest days he’d experienced, with Nixon suffering sea sickness.
“We were anchored off Beaumaris and it started to get a bit wild,’’ Newman said.
“I anticipated this but by the time I tried to pack everything up and get the anchor in, the wind had turned and it was absolutely feral. A very hazardous experience.
“A few people were sick and I told them to lie down and hang onto something. Ricky was very pale, which is unusual as he’s normally pink.
“Sue has got a history of being very balanced so she was a great help.”
Mannix performed at a gig on Saturday night despite the injury. The 60 year-old Ruck n Roll and Life of Brian podcaster said he’d had a tough few weeks.
“I finally got to start working again and if it was a football game they probably wouldn’t let me play,’’ he said.
“I also sort of got arrested the other week for something I posted on social media so I was pretty much at rock bottom and waiting for the tide to come in.”
