Multi-millionaire Adrian Portelli is hoping to “shut up” people who doubted his intentions when he gives away The Block house on Sunday.
Portelli, who had bid on the winning house of Omar Slaimankhel and Oz Abu Malik, bought the house of Sharon Johal and Ankur Dogra after it was passed in at auction.
He paid $4.25m to give the couple a profit of $170,000.
This Sunday he plans to give the house away via a promotion through his business LMCT+, but is offering an alternative option of giving away $3m.
“So a couple of months ago I went to Gisborne Victoria to a house auction and unfortunately I did not win because someone was bidding with their ego and they stupidly paid about $1.4m over the price that it’s actually worth,’’ Portelli said.
“As a result I did get labelled by most of Australia as a dummy bidder, Mr Lambo blah blah.
“So in retaliation just to shut people up I went and bought one of the other houses. It is of course house number 3 on The Block. I then came out and said I would be giving it away to one of my customers and a whole lot of sceptics came out and said it was (b … shit) but guess what … This Sunday it’s happening, we are giving away that Block house to one lucky Aussie, or if they don’t want the Block house I will be giving them $3m dollars.
“This isn’t about business, isn’t about making money, it’s about proving people wrong. It is amusing to me to shut up all these people. So sit back and enjoy the show because this Sunday one lucky Aussie’s life is going to change forever.”
Portelli has invested in a $70m property on the fringe of Melbourne which a consortium plans to develop.
He was also one of only 60 people worldwide to be offered a rare Lamborghini yacht which he has purchased for $6m.
“There was a country wide scale of doubters and haters but my life is bigger than The Block,’’ Portelli said.
“I’m giving away over $10m to our customers. It’s a good opportunity.”
