Sam Newman has responded after his upcoming appearance in SA was cancelled

Sam Newman says the “moral atrocity of wokeness” is the reason his latest show has been cancelled.

Sam Newman says having his show cancelled is reflective of society succumbing to the moral atrocity of wokeness.

The outspoken former The Footy Show co-host was due to appear at ‘An Evening with Sam Newman’ later this month at The Lady Bay Hotel in Normanville.

But the pub cancelled the event after it sparked outrage from locals.

“The vein solemnity of what is going on in the planet is extraordinary,’’ Newman said.

“Eventually people will say the gig is up.

“We’ve succumbed to this moral atrocity of wokeness.

“The majority of people will agree with what I say. The whole planet is revolving around corruption and hypocrisy.”

Newman is due to do four or five shows in South Australia.

“They might get cancelled one by one,’’ he said.

“I’m not going over to make a living off it. If people would like to engage me to come I will be just as happy going as not going.”

The Lady Bay Hotel manager, Steve Finlayson told The Advertiser at the weekend:

“We just don’t like to be controversial, so when we started to get this sort of feedback, we made the decision to cancel the show.

“We’ve been booking cover bands which have been really well received, so I think we’ll be sticking to musicians.”

Newman is no stranger to controversy for most of his career with the former Geelong champion hitting the headlines again last year for comments made about late US man George Floyd.

“I could explain everything I said and did,’’ Newman said.
