The Kid Laroi has opened his first headline show in Melbourne with an apology.
The global chart-topper’s mea culpa came a week after he cancelled a show at Rod Laver Arena last Friday night — 35 minutes after he was scheduled to appear on stage.
Doctors said he had influenza and ordered The Kid Laroi to rest and recover.
He later postponed two Melbourne shows and a Brisbane concert due to illness.
“It feels so good to be back in this beautiful city,” The Kid Laroi told the cheering crowd at the first of his two rescheduled shows in Friday night
“Before I start this show, I want to say first and foremost, I’m sorry to every single one of you who showed up (last Friday).
“I never had to do that before. I never want to disappoint any of you guys ever.
“I’m just so sorry I had to make that call,” The Kid Laroi said.
“But I’m here now and I love you guys more than ever. Thank you for coming back. Thank you for being here with me.”
The Kid Laroi, born Charlton Howard, rose from humble beginnings, growing up in Redfern, Sydney, to global pop stardom with hits including Stay, with Justin Bieber, and Without You, with Miley Cyrus.
The Kid Laroi brought wild energy, full voice and relentless mosh and bounce to his show at Rod Laver Arena on Friday night.
He spread hits and lesser known cuts across a 75 minute set, and had the crowd with him every step of the way.
Apology accepted.
