The foxy ladies from Fountain Lakes have been charmed by an unlikely visitor — Collingwood’s Texas-born ruckman Mason Cox.

Kath & Kim characters Brighton shop assistants Prue & Trude met with Cox as the iconic comedy reunited recently for a special to mark the 20th anniversary of the show.

In first images released to the Herald Sun, Cox is seen in fits of laughter behind the scenes in the South Melbourne studios.

“When we then clapped eyes on this very long cool drink of Texan water we went “woof. you can stay,’’ said Trude.

Prue’s husband, Adrian, who is on the board of Melbourne, is now trying to poach the Aussie big man.

“ … he was doing some back-channelling to Gil (AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan), you know … about getting our son Jeremy into the draft,’’ Prue said.

“He looked like a cert to be a ruck for the Pies but low and behold he got gazumped by bloody Mason Cox who seemed to have come from nowhere … at least I don’t think he went to Melbourne Grammar … or did he?

“I can’t say too much but now we know he goes well, Adrian is having a lot of offline chats with Goody (Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin) and we could be seeing Mason, or “Mace” as we call him, in the Red and the Blue soon.”

Prue and Trude also gave Cox a little tour around town, but have so far not been swayed to support the Magpies.

“Well we took him to Entrecôte to meet the boys … but the less said about that the better,’’ Trude said.

Prue added: “We’ve been taking him around town … I just said don’t get on the wrong side of Rebecca Judd if you know what’s good for you! Ask Dan Andrews.”

Prue and Trude’s alter egos, Gina Riley and Jane Turner, also joined stars Magda Szubanski, Glenn Robbins and Peter Rowsthorn, as well as other special guests, in recording new material to air later this year. Industry sources say it may be a project connected to Channel 7.

Cox said it was an honour to meet the cult duo.

“It was one of the first shows someone showed me when I got here,’’ Cox said.

“It’s suburban Australia, it’s iconic humour and defined a generation. I loved meeting the ladies, seeing how nice they are and seeing them enjoying life.”

Kath & Kim executive producer Rick McKenna was coy when asked about the reunion details.

“I can’t confirm nor deny, however we did all have lunch together … five days in a row,’’ he said.

“OK, we did do a little filming with the whole Kath & Kim team, including Prue & Trude, but it’s too early to say exactly what the show is, but it was great having everyone back together for the first time in 10 years.

“Everybody was in top form … there were a lot of laughs, a lot of wigs and some wonderful new outfits.

“We are in the editing process now and hopefully we will get to get to share it with fans later this year.”
