Melbourne Cup Carnival’s JWAGs light up Flemington trackside
AFL and cricket have WAGs. Tennis has TWAGs. Horse racing has (Jockey)WAGs, and they’re bringing the fashion and fun to Flemington this racing season. This is who you need to know.
AFL and cricket have WAGs, tennis has TWAGs.
And this spring carnival it’s all about the JWAGs, as our jockey wives and girlfriends come to the fore.
The power couples of our racing world no longer linger in the shadows, but love to indulge in a bit of horseplay.
Not afraid to back a winner, our JWAGs are living it up come race day.
Known as the loyal and understanding wives and girlfriends who support and assist the teams behind the runners and riders, Flemington is their day to shine.
You will find them in the mounting yard, the chairman’s committee room and even riding on race days themselves, as is the case of up-and-coming jockey Celine Gaudray, partner of Ethan Brown.
Queen among them is Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Mark Zahra’s effervescent wife Elyse.
More bubbly than French champagne, she knows the lay of the land, or the track, has a room full of custom millinery and has taken many of the up-and-coming JWAGs under her wing.
Take Delainey Mary, the model partner of Ben Allen who is fast making a name for herself as one to watch in the style stakes trackside.
Also in the crew is Beau Mertens’ now-wife Hayley after tying the knot at a lavish wedding at Jackalope Winery on the picturesque Mornington Peninsula earlier this year.
Jordan Childs’ – son of champion jockey Greg Childs – partner Gaby Doxey is a racing presenter and good on the punt.
Often seen out hunting in packs, they were living it up during the Caulfield carnival, with bets on whoever’s partner won a race had to buy the next bottle of French champagne.
Cheers to that!
