Logan Shine reveals she’s suffering from topical steroid withdrawal

The pregnant fiancee of Western Bulldogs star Jason Johannisen has revealed she’s suffering from a debilitating skin condition.

Logan Shine is speaking out in the hope of warning others about the dangers of contracting Topical Steroid Withdrawal.

“It’s created from an overuse of steroid creams that are prescribed for eczema and the like,’’ Shine said.

“It’s a horrible condition. GPs and dermatologists don’t give you enough info on when to stop using steroid creams and unfortunately this is the result.”

Shine, who is five months pregnant with the couple’s baby boy, says she’s in pain every day with redness across her skin.

She said the condition is overshadowing her joy in pregnancy and some days finds it hard to even look in the mirror.

“Not particularly how I saw this pregnancy going,’’ she said.

“5 months pregnant and 3 months post steroid cream usage.

“There’s no sugar coating it. My body is in pain every day. Some days are good. Some aren’t.

“My skin makes it hard to sleep at night, go out anywhere, or just look in the mirror.

“Skin conditions are no joke. I’m sad that this pregnancy feels completely overshadowed by this withdrawal my skin is going through.

“Whilst I’ve always been honest that I don’t find any part of pregnancy enjoyable to start with, TSW has really destroyed any chance I had of looking back on this time with fondness. Take care of your skin and be kind to yourself.”

Shine and Johannisen, a Bulldogs premiership player who won the Norm Smith Medal in the club’s drought-breaking 2016 Grand Final, have a two year-old daughter Lola.

She received many comments of praise, including from Johannisen who said he was proud of her.
