Lisa Campbell backs claims that her son believes he is Lady Di reincarnated

David Campbell’s wife Lisa says she “can’t explain away” her son’s “absolutely mental” claims that he is Princess Diana reincarnated. Here’s why.

Remembering Diana: The People's Princess

Lisa Campbell, wife of broadcaster and singer David Campbell, has backed her husband’s bizarre account that their young son Billy believes he is Princess Diana reincarnated.

“It’s absolutely mental,” Lisa told Confidential about the wannabe Windsor. “But I can’t explain it away.”

The story, first aired by David in his column for Stellar Magazine in the Sunday Herald Sun, said: “Our youngest, Billy, is four. Billy believes he was once Princess Diana.

“It started when someone gave my wife Lisa, who is very British, a thank-you card with Lady Di on it. Billy pointed and said, “Look! It’s me when I was a princess.”

David said he and Lisa asked Billy if he could name other family members when he was princess. He replied “John,” the name of Diana’s infant brother who died before she was born.

A day after his column was published, David, a co-host on Nine’s Today Extra, said they ran another test on his son, asking him to show them a picture of the castle where he lived as Diana. Billy chose a picture of Balmoral Castle.

Billy also accurately described the castle, including its unicorns on the walls, to a family friend visiting from Scotland.

On another occasion, Lisa showed Billy another picture of Diana, to which he said: “There’s me as a princess. Then one day the sirens came and I wasn’t a princess anymore.”

On the red carpet at the Helpmann Awards at the Arts Centre on Monday night, Lisa said David had her “blessing” to share the story about Billy, then added: “I’m not sure he got the Windsor’s blessing.”

But Lisa said she backed David’s account of the Diana dilemma.

“We are the biggest cynics, but for my four year old to know about The Queen’s summer residence in Scotland is beyond me explaining it,” she told Confidential.

“As a parent, it makes me feel very special, and it also makes me think I’m fourth in line to the throne.”

In his column, David concluded: “I want to not believe this, but we also don’t want to close the conversation down, or make him feel like his ‘memory’ is not real.

“We have some proper questions though.”
