Melbourne radio show duo reveal they have brutally lost their jobs

Melbourne’s ousted KIIS FM breakfast show has gone out on a high, recording its best result in the final radio ratings survey of the year.

Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips, together with Clint Stanaway, will be replaced by Sydney juggernaut Kyle and Jackie O next year.

Their last figure was easily its best since starting more than two years ago, climbing to 9.1.

“The support and kind words we’ve received from Melbourne since our last show aired (on December 1) has been pretty overwhelming,’’ Stanaway said.

“This is a nice little Christmas present for the entire team.”

FOX FM’s Fifi Box, Brendan Fevola and Nick Cody claimed the FM honours, proving they’ll be no pushover for their new rivals.

They dropped slightly but recorded 10.6 per cent, ahead of previous leader, GOLD FM’s Christian O’Connell who dropped to 9.0.

Triple M’s Marty Sheargold Show slid to 6.6 with the host on extended leave, while Nova’s Ben, Liam and Belle trailed them on 5.0. Smoothfm’s Mike Perso and Nikole Gunn lifted nicely to 7.5.

After a promising result last survey, ABC Melbourne slumped again — breakfast down from 10.1 to 8.2; mornings down from 8.8 to 7.9; afternoons down from 5.9 to 4.8 and drive falling from 7.3 to 5.6. Ali Moore has been announced as drive host for 2024.

GOLD FM also dropped in mornings and afternoons but was still the most listened to FM station in those markets.

SEN though improved slightly, making minor gains in breakfast and mornings.

3AW was still clearly ahead in breakfast despite Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft dropping 0.4.

Neil Mitchell bowed out of mornings with a small lift and still well on top for audience share.

FOX FM’s Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little stretched their lead in drive while Chrissie Swan in afternoons improved from 6.7 to 7.5.
