Kate Langbroek: ‘Hughesy and I love each other and have a very organic partnership’

Longtime co-hosts Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek could be making a return to the airwaves.

The radio world is abuzz – and it’s not only talk about the advent of Kyle Sandilands and Jackie “O” Henderson.

Another familiar pair, Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek, are rumoured to be eyeing a return to the airwaves.

Hughes, who is currently part of Hughesy, Ed and Erin on 2DAYFM in Sydney, recently filled in on Triple M’s The Rush Hour in Melbourne and was a popular addition.

Langbroek, who finished doing the 3pm Pick Up on KIIS FM two years ago, now has a popular podcast called The Buck Up with Nath Valvo.

Hughesy and Kate were a huge success for almost two decades until 2019 when she moved to Italy with her family.

Langbroek told the Herald Sun: “Hughesy and I love each other and have a very organic partnership and the future is a big place.”

Last year Langbroek did not dismiss the notion of reuniting with Hughes, saying “nothing is off the table” and her heart was always in radio.

Fuelling speculation is the poor ratings return for Hughesy’s 2DAY FM show, which rated a lowly 3.6 in the latest survey.

Langbroek stepped out on Friday to celebrate the launch of Paramount’s new series, Fake, starring Asher Keddie, David Wenham and Heather Mitchell.

The radio landscape has changed significantly in the past year with Kyle and Jackie O being broadcast into Melbourne since the end of April, Lauren and Jase beginning on Nova breakfast, and Triple M’s Marty Sheargold moving from breakfast to afternoons.

A new Triple M breakfast show starts on Monday, with Wil Anderson returning alongside Dale Thomas and Rosemary Walton, until October when a permanent Sheargold replacement will be announced.
