Joel and Brit Selwood’s year has got a whole lot better after welcoming their first child.
Geelong’s former first couple announced the arrival of son, Joey Victor Selwood, on Friday.
“The world just got a whole lot better,” they wrote.
“Your Mum and Dad are so in love with you.”
Special needs teacher Brit gave birth at Epworth Geelong, which will close its maternity unit next month.
Joel, the Cats premiership captain, has joined the Melbourne Storm as leadership coach this year.
In September the couple said their dreams had come true after going through IVF to conceive.
They shared the special baby news on social media with an adorable picture of them both holding a little Geelong jumper with Selwood’s guernsey No.14 on the back along with the word “dad”.
Joel wrote: “Our dreams have come true. Brit and I are grateful to be able to share we have a little one coming into the world.
“We look forward to being ‘Mum and Dad’ and the world changing for us in the near future.
“What I have worked out through this process is that women are amazing and my wife is a superwoman. In a journey that hasn’t been easy, we have found a way, through great support and Brit staying positive.
“To couples, who are trying, have tried or can’t have a baby for some unfair reason, we see you and are sending love and positive energy your way.
“We can’t wait to meet you Baby Selwood, you will be very loved.”
Brit also commented on their tough journey to become parents.
The pair, who married in January 2020, became engaged in 2018 and have been flooded with well wishes for another potential future father-son footballer at the Cats.
