Joel and Brit Selwood have opened up on years of heartbreak as they revealed their happy news after a tough pregnancy journey.

Joel and Brit Selwood’s dreams have come true, announcing they are expecting their first child.

The Geelong captain and his special-needs teacher wife shared the special news on social media with an adorable picture of them both holding a little Geelong jumper with Selwood’s guernsey No.14 on the back along with the word “dad”.

Joel wrote: “Our dreams have come true. Brit and I are grateful to be able to share we have a little one coming into the world.

“We look forward to being ‘Mum and Dad’ and the world changing for us in the near future.

“What I have worked out through this process is that women are amazing and my wife is a superwoman. In a journey that hasn’t been easy, we have found a way, through great support and Brit staying positive.

“To couples, who are trying, have tried or can’t have a baby for some unfair reason, we see you and are sending love and positive energy your way.

“We can’t wait to meet you Baby Selwood, you will be very loved.”

Brit also commented on their tough journey to become parents.

The pair, who married in January 2020, became engaged in 2018 and were flooded with well wishes.

The couple’s joy comes as the Cats chase premiership glory and gear up for Friday night’s preliminary final against Brisbane.

“Our dreams have come true,’’ Brit wrote.

“Joel and I are grateful to be able to share that we have a little one coming into the world.

“We couldn’t do this announcement without acknowledging those who are struggling with infertility or loss.

“I know how much my heart would break every time I saw a pregnancy post and my heart truly goes out to you if that’s how you’re feeling right now.

“These past few years have changed me forever. For anyone who has lost hope right now, I’ve been there and I’m thinking of you, and I hope one day soon, you get your miracle.”
