Brit Selwood says a mystery fire almost caused havoc on her wedding day with Joel
Brit and Joel Selwood had a perfect wedding but the bride has revealed a “near miss” that almost destroyed the day.

Brit Selwood has revealed how her perfect wedding to Geelong captain Joel Selwood could have been interrupted by fire.
The couple married in January last year at a private property outside Geelong and had no idea of the drama unfolding behind the scenes.
“If you speak to our wedding planner Laura, there was a very very near miss that probably would have turned the wedding the opposite way,’’ Selwood told The Bridal Journey’s The You and Me podcast.
“We nearly had a bit of a fire, I don’t even know what happened, but she dealt with it and I didn’t even know until the next day. So she was running around like a headless chook but I didn’t know a thing.”
Selwood, a special needs teacher, said she wouldn’t have changed a thing about their special day in January 2020, which came after an 18 month engagement.
The first stunning dress she wore was by Elie Saab and her second dress was by Paolo Sebastian.
“I don’t know if many brides have that answer but there’s nothing I would change,’’ she said.
“It was all so perfect and I wouldn’t change a second or a minute of the day.
“We didn’t really have too many challenging things. No one likes doing a seating plan but it’s not the most exciting part of it. I think our wedding planner made it so easy for us.”
Selwood said at the time the bushfires were the main concern for family and guests including many Geelong past and present players.
“Remember those couple of weeks when it was so smoky and hazy and everyone was worried about air quality,’’ Brit said.
“We were worried about people being outside and being exposed to poor air quality so that was the most stressful.
“Luckily we had the most perfect day. It was in between two terrible days and we got a perfect 27 degree day.”
