Jock Zonfrillo’s widow Lauren Fried has spoken for the first time, a month on from the beloved MasterChef judge’s shock death.
Lauren appeared on Zonfrillo’s Instagram page in a video thanking people for their support and saying she wanted input from his followers into how best to move forward with sharing his life on social media.
“It’s been a month now since we lost Jock and I put a line in the sand thinking that at the one month mark I would turn some sort of a corner,’’ she began.
“Obviously that hasn’t happened and there’s no time that I could allocate to say thank you to everyone.
I just am overwhelmed by the messages that came in from people all over the world, that knew him or didn’t know him. I really wish he knew how loved he was and he knew the impact that he had on so many people.”
Fried, who shared two young children with Zonfrillo, Alfie, 6, and Isla, 2, revealed they had filmed a TV show in Italy where the family was due to relocate.
The 46 year-old was found dead in a suite at a Carlton hotel in the early hours of Monday, May 1, after police responded to a welfare check call at the property.
Zonfrillo had returned from Rome to promote the new season of MasterChef Australia which launched on air a week later after his passing.
“Jock and I worked really hard on his social media and so I have to try and make a decision whether we keep it going or not,’’ Fried said.
“He had lots of projects he was working on, a lot that he finished and I just don’t know what’s appropriate or what you guys want to see on here.
“He’s got a lot of behind the scenes interviews and photos from MasteChef, he’s got books, a fashion range, he’s got spirits ageing in a distillery in Tassie, he’s got a TV show he filmed in Italy last year with the family, and so as I am pondering what’s appropriate or not.
“If I don’t really know what’s right I’ll put a poll up on here and you guys can tell me yes or no and somehow we can work out whether there’s a path forward here or if we don’t do anything at all. Thanks again and I will manage his channel from now on and I will respond to as much as I can. Thank you.”
A private funeral was held in Sydney on May 13 to farewell the Glasgow-born chef as Fried led mourners out of the small chapel, his four children — his two eldest daughters, Ava and Sophia, are from his first two marriages — and many of his celebrity friends.
