Earlier Macpherson surprised the assembled early fashionistas when she appeared in the forecourt where she pressed the flesh, signing autographs and posing for a few selfies with the style set.

“I’m grateful to be coming home, not to be seen necessarily as an icon, but I’m grateful for my Australian heritage,” Macpherson said.

“I’ve had such an extraordinary career that’s brought me unusual and interesting experiences and I’m extremely grateful.

“It all goes hand-in-hand, it gives an opportunity for these brands to shine and for consumers to see them. And of course, it’s a celebration, it’s important to remember it’s not always business.”

She added: “Female success stories are really important … I would encourage everybody to really step into their own unique beauty and be themselves.

“That’s the most charismatic, magnetic, even attractive thing that we can be. You know, you do you, you be you and I’ll be me.”
