Much-loved Gogglebox grandma Emmie Silbery won’t be returning for the new season.
Silbery, 94, who has long starred on the Foxtel show alongside her daughter Kerry and granddaughter Izzy, has been diagnosed with dementia and was moved into an aged care home in Melbourne.
“It’ll be different, and it’s sad particularly for us and the viewers because mum has provided a lot of amazing insight and humour,’’ Kerry said.
“She’s the oldest Logie award winner in history. It’s the reality of life and half the people over the age 90 suffer from dementia. Luckily mum’s got the kind where she’s laughing and she’s a happy little camper.
“Mum will no doubt be watching this season and despite missing her on the couch, we hope to continue to entertain our loving audience.”
Izzy said: “It’s been a tough few months for us all, but we want everyone to know that Emmie is in the best care and between Mum and I, we visit her almost every day. We hope by being transparent with this news, that it helps to open up the conversation about dementia and the challenges that many families sadly have to face.”
The original Gogglebox households return including the Delpechitra family, Lee and Keith, Anastasia and Faye, The Daltons and Adam and Symon.
Gogglebox Australia returns Wednesdays at 7.30pm from February 22 on Foxtel.
