YELLOW Wiggle Emma Watkins has been forced to pull out of coming shows with the wildly popular children’s entertainers to undergo treatment for chronic endometriosis.
It’s a move that will disappoint her legions of fans but Watkins said it has been needed for some time.
“I have been in a lot of pain for the past couple of years,” she said.
Watkins said it had been a “difficult decision” to undergo surgery to manage the pain of the condition.
The 28-year-old will be admitted to hospital on Tuesday, the same day she was to perform with the Wiggles on the Gold Coast.
She will also be replaced by an understudy at shows in South Australia from April 21 to 30 and in NSW from May 12 to 20.
Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows in other parts of the body. It can cause intense pain and affect fertility.
Watkins, who married fellow Wiggle Lachy Gillespie two years ago, said she would like to have children but “my doctor has advised I need 12 months to recover from this surgery”.
She urged anyone suffering from endometriosis “to put your health first and get a diagnosis so that you are in the best position to manage this crippling disease”.
