WHAT a bow-tiful couple.
Purple Wiggle Lachlan Gillespie and Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins made their big, red love official yesterday, tying the knot in a royal-inspired ceremony south of Sydney.
The couple, who met as performers on the superstar childrens group and hid their relationship for two years, exchanged their vows during a late afternoon ceremony in Bowral with around 200 close friends and family in attendance, including past and present members of the children’s entertainment group.
Not since June Carter and Johnny Cash has there been such a perfect musical pairing and that was evident when the elated pair took their relationship to the next level.
Holding a bouquet made up white roses, peonies and hydrangeas, Watkins, 26 channelled vintage siren bride in an elegant fairytale-esque gown by Australian designer Suzanne Harward and her trademark yellow bow was replaced with a headpiece by milliner to the stars, Viktoria Novak.
Her new husband and his groomsmen, one of which was Red Wiggle Simon Pryce, wore suits by celebrated Melbourne designer Arthur Galan, with Gillespie giving a nod to his Scottish roots.
Watkins summed up the big day with just a few short words; “Lachy. Love. Laughter. The best day of my life.”
While her besotted husband said seeing his bride for the first time is a moment he will never forget.
“Seeing Emma was the most magical moment of my life. Everything else just seemed to melt away,” he said.
As for the entertainment, it was always going to be impressive, with every member, past and present, of the children’s group taking to the stage.
“Blue Wiggle Anthony Field will wear a traditional kilt to play the bagpipes as I arrive,” Watkins said previously.
“And the Wiggles will do all the music. That’s where the wedding will be quite personal.
“Everyone who has been in the show before will play some sort of instrument.
“Then all night we will have friends and Wiggles playing and Lachy will sing.”
The all important cake had a subtle nod to The Wiggles, with Emma’s signature bow made from icing and a pale yellow and purple used for their two Wiggles colours.
The wedding comes after Gillespie proposed to his love at Lavender Bay on Sydney Harbour be getting down on one knee and reading a poem to his wife-to-be.
A testament to Gillespie’s nature, the softly-spoken purple Wiggle called Blue Wiggle and founding member Anthony Field before he proposed, to which Field said, “Lachy, I’m not your dad!”.
It’s a year of weddings for the Wiggles after Red Wiggle Simon proposed to his long-time girlfriend (and former Wiggles dancer) Lauren Hannaford in Paris on New Year’s Eve.
The pair plan to marry late this year or early 2017.
