Dave Hughes and Hannah Gadsby among comedy stars uniting for bushfire aid

Some of the biggest names in Australian comedy, including Dave Hughes and Hannah Gadsby, are coming together to raise vital funds for the Victorian bushfire in a one-off stand up extravaganza.

Comedian Joel Creasey only has four jokes.

Australian comedy giants, including Hannah Gadsby, Dave Hughes and Wil Anderson have joined forces to raise money for the bushfire crisis.

Gadsby, Hughes and Anderson are among one of the biggest comedic line-ups to take the stage for Stand Up for Bushfire Relief at the Palais Theatre on January 20.

Other comedians joining efforts for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal include Judith Lucy, Tommy Little, Joel Creasey, Cal Wilson, Nazeem Hussain, Denise Scott and many more.

“It’s really brought the community together and we were absolutely going to do something,” Hughes told Confidential.

“Just breathing the air in Melbourne makes you think about it and it’s rare in summer that we’re praying for rain. We’re rejoicing on a cold day.”

Tickets go on sale at 2pm Wednesday at Ticketmaster.

Global chart-topper Tones And I has also joined the fundraising effort with a bushfire benefit show at 170 Russell on January 28.

“This is a chance for us to support the fireys and all the families that are affected by the bushfires,” Tones, born Toni Watson, said.

Adrian Eagle, who had breakthrough hits with AOK and 17 Again, will also perform.

It follows two sold-out fundraiser shows by Courtney Barnett and Camp Cope on Monday and Tuesday night.

Local rockers Dallas Crane and The Casanovas will also perform at Rock Against The Fires at The Spotted Mallard on January 24.

US rapper Lizzo, who is headlining Sunday’s FOMO Festival, said she would also be donating: “Unfortunately this is such a tragic time, and I couldn’t not reflect the times.”
