Broadcaster and comedian Wil Anderson says it has taken 12 months to feel comfortable alongside Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy on their Triple M radio show.
“I imagine it’s like being a sports person,” Anderson told Confidential.
“It takes you a year to settle in and figure out how everyone plays, what their individual quirks are, and when they’re at their best. I reckon it takes a year to feel out the strengths and weaknesses.”

Anderson joined the Hot Breakfast show last year after Mick Molloy moved to a national drive show with Jane Kennedy.
“I grew up listening to Mick and (former radio partner) Tony (Martin) and took bits and pieces from both of them. I owe a great debt to them,” Anderson said.
“To step into his role on the show was, to be serious for a second, a very daunting challenge. I had to ask myself: ‘Well, what’s my place in here? What am I gonna do that honours enough of what Mick brought to the show, but also offers something that’s uniquely my own?’
“I didn’t to want to be the loud guy ruining the party. I knew it was going to take a while to figure it out.
“We’re not on the same page on some issues, but that’s OK. It’s about bringing out the best in everyone.”
The latest radio ratings survey saw Wil and Co take an 8.4 per cent share, making it the No.2 FM breakfast show in Melbourne.
Has Anderson, a former Triple J breakfast show host, changed his approach as a broadcaster on Triple M?
He replied: “Yeah, I’ve had to dumb it down for Darce.”
Wilinformed, Anderson’s new show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, plays at the Comedy Theatre from tomorrow to April 21.

Things that TV, radio and comedy superstar Wil Anderson won’t ever run out of?
Punny titles, packed shows of happy customers and industry acclaim.Anderson’s 23rd straight year of doing shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival brings him slap-bang into a brutal life milestone: he is 45 years old, middle-aged.
It also displays his continued originality and diligence.
Most artists perform before a black curtain. He has a vast commissioned artwork.
Most comedians whose day job is hosting breakfast on radio station Triple M would shy from mocking right-wing hero Jordan Peterson, or deciding to splay open toxic masculinity and environmental decay. Anderson? Boots in.
Never a lecture, this is a laugh-a-minute ride, masterfully helmed.
