Cornes not yet dead and buried at Channel 9

Kane Cornes was given a mock funeral on the Sunday Footy Show last weekend, but reports of his death at Channel 9 have been greatly exaggerated.

Dale Thomas calls Kane Corne’s a “f…wit”

Kane Cornes hasn’t farewelled Channel 9 just yet despite a mock funeral being held for his last show.

The commentator who is switching to Channel 7 next year appeared to have signed off after the Sunday Footy Show last weekend.

But he is “back from the dead” to front three more shows for Channel 9.

The network is putting on a trade edition of Footy Furnace for the next three Sundays.

Cornes has been called on to appear alongside Tom Morris, Damian Barrett and Jimmy Bartel.

His Sunday Footy Show colleagues ended the program with a funeral skit to farewell him from the network after eight years.

“A man who took the media industry by storm in 2017, Kane now travels to football’s graveyard, better known as Channel 7, where shows barely last for three episodes,’’ host Tony Jones said.

He added: “It is with a heavy heart we are going to miss you. You can now look forward to an afterlife on Armchair Experts.”

Matthew Lloyd said: “All the best, I fear for ya and there’s no coming back son.”

Cornes himself signed off saying it had been a joy.

“Been a great ride and appreciate everything,’’ he said.

Cornes’ big move was announced on August 27 but he’s remained on the Sunday Footy Show and Footy Classified despite the rival jump triggering crisis talks at Nine.

Caroline Wilson and Craig Hutchison are also leaving Nine for Seven.
