Melbourne star Christian Petracca said he had planned for months to propose to girlfriend Bella Beischer while on holiday in Lake Como.
“Well I had to do it in the motherland, in Lake Como in Italy — one of the most beautiful places on earth,’’ he told KIIS FM’s Jase & Lauren on Monday.
“I organised it about a couple of months ago. I did it at Villa del Balbianello, which is a famous villa in Italy.
“It was really funny actually. We haven’t dressed up the whole trip and then I told Bella to dress up just for this tour, so I think she sort of knew it was coming to be honest... I think she wanted me to make her dress up for it.”
Posting posed pictures to Instagram, the pair were standing in the idyllic Italian town of Lenno as Beischer showed off the sparkling diamond.
Petracca simply posted two emojis of a ring and a love heart.
The pair have just been travelling through Dubai and Paris before reaching the romantic destination of Bellagio in Lake Como.
“I just hid the ring in my shoe to be honest, then when I went on the tour, I put it in my back pocket,’’ he said.
“She had a fair understanding (the engagement was coming) because I was bloody nervous for a couple of days, I was biting my nails and tapping my leg when we were out for dinner and she’s like ‘what are you doing?’
“And I was like nah not much, just nervous about footy in the middle of off-season in Lake Como.”
The couple started dating in 2020 and were the standout couple at the Brownlow that year in Queensland with Beischer, a lawyer, widely regarded as best dressed in a white gown.
Petracca, who won the Norm Smith Medal in the Demons’ premiership last year, played the last game of the season with a hairline fracture of his fibula.
“I am very envious of people in the grand final because that feeling we had last year was the best feeling I have ever had,” he said before the Brownlow.
Petracca has recently gained a new breed of followers after going viral with his TikTok cooking videos.
