An emotional Chrissie Swan has bid farewell to breakfast radio saying the show, alongside Jonathan Brown and Sam Pang, had given her a “sense of purpose”.

While tearfully reading out a text from her daughter Peg, Swan said the job she described as a true gift for the past seven years had given her a reason to get up and get on with it.

“It’s just a big sad moment,’’ Swan said.

“And I was fine until my daughter sent me this text message:

“Hi Mum, it’s Peg, just wanted to say congratulations for your last day on morning radio. Twenty years. My whole life I have never seen you on the weekday mornings.

“So have a great last day with the people you have been working with and loving for seven years. I know it’s going to be sad letting the show go, but those boys are not disappearing. “Have a great last day.”

Swan added: “I have so much to be grateful for.

“You saved me sincerely during the lockdowns, before and after.”

“I will never forget the impact you had on my sense of purpose. I can’t thank you enough for listening and giving me a reason to get up and get on with it.

“It’s been the most gorgeous and intimate experience of my working life. Coming in here and hanging out with you beautiful people while listening to music reminds me of how I liked to while away the hours as a teenager — when we all had the luxury of time.

“This is what I will miss most about this show ending, you three (including announcer Dean “Deano” Thomas) who have become so important to me will join the small but special list of special I’ll have to schedule time to catch up with.

“What a true gift and luxury it has been to know that I get to see your beautiful faces and hear your beautiful faces every single day. I have loved every minute.”

Swan, Brown and Pang thanked many of the behind scenes staff and crew including producer Jack Charles.

Brown said to Swan: “I know we muck around when I talk about Australia’s Oprah (Winfrey) but seriously you are. To me you’re one of my best mates. And I love you dearly and love our connection over the journey, you’ve given all that advice. The fact you prepared meals for my father after the passing of my mum shows your heart and shows you care.”

Brown joked that he and Pang should next take on being part of the crew on a Sydney to Hobart yacht.

Pang thanked his colleagues and got Lawrence Mooney to read a tribute for Deano and Kate Langbroek a tribute for Charles.

“Chrissie I just wanted to say thank you very much,’’ Pang said.

“Seven years ago you alerted Nova management to my existence. They didn’t know, I have you to thank you for this job and everything in radio in the last seven years. Every time the alarm went off I cursed your name. It’s been a privilege and I’ve loved every minute of it and it’s been a wild ride but I’d do it all again.

“You’re an amazingly talented woman and I can’t wait to see what you do next year and beyond. I love you.”

He added: “Browny and I we were probably always going to get along. I didn’t really have the faith that I would get through it (the farewell without crying).”

Swan will switch to afternoons host with producer Charles joining her.

Nova’s new breakfast show Ben, Liam & Belle will launch on Monday. While radio’s regular breakfast teams take a break over summer, Ben, Liam & Belle will get a head start in the lead up Christmas.

“We’re stoked and keen to get back into it,’’ Ben Harvey said.

“Melbourne is definitely a super cool city and it’s overwhelming when you think about all the events.”

Ben & Liam built a loyal national following during their three years as hosts of Triple J’s breakfast show and over the past three years have made a big impact on Nova’s breakfast show in Adelaide.

Liam Stapleton said: “We are all so excited to spend Christmas with the people of Melbourne.”

Belle Jackson is looking forward to showing her colleagues her hometown.

“It’s so good to be home in Australia’s best city and now I can’t wait for Monday,’’ she said.
