Carlton greats are rallying around footy favourite Peter Bosustow after a devastating cancer diagnosis.

Known as “The Buzz”, the forward played most of his career in Perth and had a huge impact in 65 games with the Blues in the early 80s.

He said he was up for the fight after being told he has rectal cancer.

“I’ve got to fight, I’m only 63,’’ he told the Herald Sun.

“They tell me they have it early so I’m trying to be upbeat about it.”

Kate Jesaulenko, daughter of Carlton legend Alex Jesaulenko, has started a fundraising page for the man she considers to be like family. He is due to start chemotherapy soon.

She wrote: “One of the legends of our club, has told me he has been diagnosed with cancer. “After everything this man has been through, Mr Peter Bosustow has been diagnosed with rectal cancer, which has spread to his liver. He has been booked in for chemo in the coming weeks and has been told if he doesn’t do this, he has 12 months to live.

“After seeing my mother pass away in 10 days from diagnosis I have been given authority to raise funds for Buzz and his beautiful family, which they can’t afford.

“I am reaching out to all football supporters, especially you Carlton people to help in any way you can, for Buzz, to beat this horrible disease and live a long and beautiful life with his beautiful wife, children and grandchildren.

“I understand the current climate, however, all you true Blue baggers need to give what you can, even $10, anything will help.

“God love you Buzz, you are family to all us Jesaulenko’s and we love you. X.”

Bosustow, who has two children and three grandchildren, said club legends such as Stephen Kernahan and David Parkin had also been a huge support.

“I dropped about 26, 27 kgs in the last six months so I’m ready for a half forward flank,’’ he said.

“I feel ok and get the odd upset tummy.

“People say you gave us tremendous joy and they’re wanting to give back. When I hear that it really peps me up and the fight goes on.”

Last year Blues legends rallied around Bosustow after he was robbed of nearly $300,000.

He said he has slowly rebuilt but is still doing it tough.

“It’s been an ordinary couple of years,’’ he said.

“I’ve got a lot of good support from Carlton people and the doctors said you’ve been under enormous pressure.”

The West Australian reported in June 2019 that Bosustow was caught up in the collapse of lifetime home lease scheme Sterling First.

Bosustow played in two premiership sides in Perth, and then crossed to Carlton where he kicked 146 goals, winning both mark and goal of the year in 1981. He was at the Blues from 1981-83 before returning to the WAFL from 1984 until his retirement from the game in 1987.
