A man from Perth made his bride-to-be’s day by proposing at Saturday night’s packed Billy Joel concert at the MCG.
Karl I’Anson got down on one knee at the end of Joel’s hit Italian Restaurant, the favourite song of his partner Sarah Macius.
The couple flew in on the red eye on Saturday to watch her most loved artist.
“I planned it for about three months,’’ I’Anson said.
“Sarah is originally from Chicago and Billy is her favourite artist and that’s her favourite song. Everyone was dancing and chatting around us, I was just hoping she’d say yes. It worked out well.”
I’Anson said he thought his partner of 18 months had cottoned onto his plan after making jokes about proposing during the day.
“She was saying hopefully not, I’d rather you do it when we get home with the dog but that’s OK, she was happy,’’ he said.
“I was nervous all day because the box I had the ring in was massive. I waited until the end of the song. We had some champagne and relaxed after, it was great.”
The couple will head back to Perth on Sunday.
