Rebecca Maddern signed off from weekend presenting ahead of her move to the nightly newsdesk, but Mike Amor was a notable absence for her emotional farewell.

Channel 7 newsreader Mike Amor was absent from co-host Rebecca Maddern’s final weekend bulletin due to illness.

As Maddern signed off from weekend presenting before she joins the nightly newsdesk to present sport, Amor was stuck at home.

“Bummed I didn’t get to share the desk one last Sunday with my mate Rebecca Maddern,’’ he posted on social media.

“Bloody whooping cough left me watching on the couch. Thanks for all the laughs in the ad breaks (and occasional controversy).”

Amor was referring to the moment they went viral when a leaked video surfaced in January 2022 of them giving candid opinions about unvaxxed tennis ace Novak Djokovic and his visa saga.

Maddern said she’s proud of the product she’s helped deliver over the past three years.

“There are so many producers, directors, journalists, autocue operators, make up girls who I would like to say thank you to, for spending Saturdays and Sundays with me,’’ she posted on Sunday night.

“To all of the viewers, thank you so much for watching us! It really is such a great team. I’m not going far, in fact I’ll be sitting at the same desk, just in another chair leading the wonderful sports team Mon-Fri in 2025. Thank you to my wonderful weekend team.”
